What have you been up to since STA: I was a Page in the US House of Representatives in High School for 6 months. Interesting fact…the Page desk was what was used to block the doors to the chamber during the insurrection/coup attempt January 6th. After college, I went on to study medicine and I have been in practice in Internal Medicine for 20 years. I am voluntary faculty at Washington University, on the Board of Governor’s for Missouri for the American College of Physicians, volunteer at Casa de Salud where I provide care for undocumented workers, and just invented a new class of Powered Air-Purifying Respirators to protect healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. I am one of 6 NIOSH approved products for the pandemic and am donating the first 350 to hospital ICUS and emergency departments (PAPRForce.com). I certainly did not expect to become a manufacturer or have a patent pending, but I felt compelled to protect my colleagues and my community from this deadly virus.
Please tell us about your family. I have been married to Chris Reid, my college sweetheart, for 27 years. We have 2 children, Miranda, who is working for Medicare’s Center for Innovation and will be going to medical school in the fall, and Aidan who is a Senior at Georgetown, who does sketch comedy and will be working in cybersecurity.
I am also aunt to graduates Emma, John and Kevin Strenski and Owen DeLaney as well as current students Cormac & Caitlin DeLaney.
What is your favorite STA memory? Peace Cranes with Ms Yersenko, Mrs Holland reading Brier Rabbit to us, slide rule classes, and 100 days to a more powerful vocabulary.
What do you like to do in your spare time? Running, cycling, cooking and volunteering! Not a lot of free time to be honest.
What words of advice would you offer a current STA student? Don’t be afraid to be yourself. What makes you odd in 7th grade is what makes you successful long term. STA is a diverse and warm community. I miss it!
