UPDATE
Dear STA Families,
We’re excited to share that the Illinois Street STA Safety Project has now been installed! Thanks to grants from Midtown Indy and the City of Indianapolis , St. Thomas Aquinas has implemented new safety measures—including painted crosswalks, signage, and bump outs—to help calm traffic and make our school and parish safer for students and families.
Please note: As part of the project, seven parking spaces along Illinois Street have been removed to improve visibility and reduce speeding. We encourage parents and parishioners to use Kenwood Avenue for parking whenever possible.
We want to extend a huge thanks to the parent and community volunteers who made the project possible by helping with installation and speed data collection: John Barth, Ryan Brady, Jules Chevigney, Blake Erdel, Kate Erdel, Matt Fries, Adam Harker, Erica Morrical, and Rob Peoni. Thanks, also, to Francesca Brady and Chris Merritt for their help organizing and planning the project, and to the City of Indianapolis team and Midtown Indy Executive Director for their work.
We’re looking for more parent volunteers to help us track traffic speed data in the coming weeks so we can measure the impact of the changes. If you’re willing to spend an hour or two helping with this important work, please sign up for a 50-minute slot HERE.
If you have any questions about the project, feel free to contact Francesca Brady at 317-450-2617.
Thank you for your support and for helping us create a safer environment for all!
Warmly,
The STA Safety Team
