A BUTLER-TARKINGTON CANDLELIGHT VIGIL

As people of faith in the Butler-Tarkington community, we share a common grief for the devastation gun violence has wrought in our city. All of our faith traditions value human life and believe that every life holds sacred worth. Our hearts are broken by the third mass shooting in our city just this year and the countless individuals killed by gun violence again and again in our community. We are called to gather together as the faith community of Butler-Tarkington to put our feelings into words and our words into action.

All are invited to join this Butler-Tarkington Candlelight Vigil. We will pray together, we will lament lives lost in our city, we will declare that gun violence must not be our norm anymore, and we will call for action right here in Butler-Tarkington — from ourselves, from our churches, and from our neighbor Gov. Holcomb.

This vigil will take place in the parking lot of St. Thomas Aquinas (46th & Illinois). Parking is available in the lots at Common Ground and Fairview Presbyterian churches, as well as on the street. As this event is occurring in the midst of an ongoing pandemic, we ask all in attendance to wear masks and seek to maintain physical distance. Children are welcome, with appropriate adult guidance.
