STA HAITI FUND JULY 1, 2019 – JUNE 30, 2020

Pere Jean Philippe St. Aubin, the pastor of St. Jean Marie Vianney Catholic Church in Belle-Rivière, Haiti, constantly expresses his and the people’s gratitude for the generosity shown by the parishioners of St. Thomas Aquinas parish. 2019-2020 has been a year unlike any other year for STA and the people of Belle-Rivière. Schools closed in March. With no e-Learning option available, the schools in Belle-Rivière will reopen in August to finish the 2019-20 school year. Paying teachers and providing food for students continued throughout the closure. No dates have been set for the conclusion of the 2019-20 school year and the beginning of the 2020-21 school year. Fortunately, COVID-19 has had no major impact on the health of people in Belle-Rivière. The medical program through Visitation Hospital was forced to stop in March. No date has been set for its return. For three months funds have been sent for meds for the Belle-Rivière Clinic. Because of COVID-19, the annual sea container program was canceled. Hopefully, it will return next spring.

Joining Pere Jean Philippe, the STA Haiti Committee thanks you for the support you have shown for the people and programs in Belle-Rivière. As STA examines racism in America, we are reminded that many of the difficulties in Haiti are the result of international racism. As STA has been working to correct racism in our neighborhood and city for decades, STA has also been working for thirty years to fight racism toward Haiti.
