St. Thomas Aquinas Church - Come As You Are

St. Thomas Aquinas School is a fully accredited by the State of Indiana and the North Central Association and meets Indiana Department of Education standards.  In 2005, we were named a Blue Ribbon School by the US Department of Education, which honors schools that are academically superior.

We are a small school with a student population that averages 215 and one class per grade from kindergarten through grade 8. Our teachers have the opportunity to really get to know each student making everyone feel important and helping us to foster a safe and secure environment. We strive to offer individualized attention to each one of our students.

STA places a strong emphasis on respect, service and kindness towards others:

Our younger students are paired with older students as "Faith Partner" who help and guide them through  the school year, model responsible behavior and provide a fun companion during field trips and in-school activities.

Upper grade students are required to complete service hours in which they volunteer their time and talents. Indeed, the entire St. Thomas curriculum is centered on the belief that students not only need to receive an excellent academic education, but also they need to learn how to live a life of kindness and compassion.

Our students consistently obtain high academic achievements, with our overall student population performing in the top 10% on the Indiana State Standardized test, ISTEP+, each year.  In addition, 100% of our 2008-2009 8th  Our long tradition of fielding an outstanding speech team for 6th, 7th and 8th graders continues. Our speech team consistently finishes in the top spots in these meets.  In addition, 100% of our 2008-2009 8th grade algebra students passed the State Core 40 Exam in that subject area with 40% receiving a perfect score.  Our long tradition of fielding an outstanding speech team for 6th, 7th and 8th graders continues. Our speech team consistently finishes in the top spots in these meets.

Our teachers are a dedicated group of professionals who bring energy and enthusiasm into the classroom. They model a commitment to their faith and a life of service each day. To provide individualized attention and improved student-teacher ratios, STA provides teacher aides in lower grades, and uses small group instruction in core classes in upper grades.

There are many opportunities for our parents to get involved with the school.  Our success, in part, is due to the dedication and commitment of our parent volunteers.  Two ways that parents can help out at STA School are through the School Commission and the Home and School Association (HSA).  The overall role of the School Commission is to serve as a consultative body to the Principal and Pastor on the operation of the school.  The work of the School Commission falls into four major categories:  Planning, Monitoring, Policy-Making and Communications.  Members of the School Commission are either elected or discerned and serve a three year term.  In addition to its primary role of fostering effective communication between school families and the school, the Home and School Association provides support for the principal and staff, presents enrichment opportunities, gives support in times of crisis and encourages parish and community support. Membership in HSA is open to all parents of STA students.
