Umoja story:

Umoja Visitors Spread Confidence

Umoja visitors from Indiana helped spread confidence to students in Kenya.  “Confidence” is the brand name of the locally-sourced feminine products we distribute to adolescent girls. A year’s supply for one girl costs only $10. Without these supplies, girls would often miss an entire week of school each month, which negatively affected their performance.

Umoja students face extraordinary daily challenges in their quest for education. They often lack basic necessities, such as blankets, clothing, and light to study. Link Teachers at each partner school help us identify particular needs of students and their families.

In addition to supplying sanitary products to girls, Umoja volunteers distributed undergarments to boys and solar lanterns to some students.

By providing these essential items, Umoja Partnership instills confidence in these vulnerable students and helps them focus on their schoolwork, enabling them to perform to the best of their ability.
