The Season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and continues until the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday totaling 40 days.  Lent is a time of penance and preparation for the renewal of our Baptismal Promises at Easter.  Preparation includes: Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving.  This is also a time for the preparation of Catechumens and Candidates.

Lent is a liturgical season and like any other season brings changes.

You will notice some liturgical changes that Lent brings such as:

The liturgical color changes to Violet,

There are no flowers around in the sanctuary,

There is no singing of the Gloria or hymns/acclamation with Alleluias.

Just like in spring the snow melts and the weather warms preparing the ground for new growth, we too take this opportunity for spiritual growth to prepare ourselves for the renewal of our baptismal promises and reaffirm our faith.
